How My Journey with Tuồng Began

Growing up in a military family, where discipline and reason were always put first, I rarely had the opportunity to touch the world of art, where emotions are expressed through colors, sounds and stories. But one evening in 10th grade, while mindlessly scrolling through Facebook, I stopped in front of a Tuong performance video. Just a few seconds, with the pounding drums, long singing voices, strong eyes behind the colorful makeup made me feel hypnotized. In that moment, everything around me faded away, leaving only the stage, the music, and the strange feeling of finding a part of my own soul in it. From the initial curiosity, Tuong became a sincere passion, a journey for me to learn how to listen to the past, and retell the Vietnamese cultural heritage in the language of today's generation.

At the beginning of 2024, when my passion for Tuong was just beginning to blossom, I began to ask myself: “How can this traditional theatrical art be revived in the lives of today’s youth?” From that question, Tuong Sac was born, a student project founded by us, with the desire to preserve, recreate and retell the essence of Tuong in the creative language of the new generation. For me, Tuong Sac is not just a cultural project; it is a milestone marking my journey of learning leadership, teamwork, and using art to connect people with tradition.

As soon as the project was established, I put myself in the role of Head of Finance. Besides studying, I spent hours planning the budget, sending emails and calling to call for sponsorship from businesses and individuals who love art. Every day, the finance team approached more than 20 sponsors via email and cold calling for three months. With that effort, Tuong Sac raised more than 20,000,000 VND, enough for us to carry out a series of cooperation activities with the Vietnam Tuong Theatre.

SEASON 02: PRESIDENT

Since February 2025, I have been the President, leading a team of 30 enthusiastic members from 5 different departments. From a small group of high school students with a passion for traditional theater, we have gradually become a creative community with a common mission: bringing Tuong art closer to modern audiences through education, art and digital media. As a leader, my team and I have built a long-term vision based on three main pillars: connecting the community, spreading education, and storytelling through digital platforms. We not only want to preserve Tuong, but also want to breathe new life into it, so that the melodies and characters of Tuong can speak to today's young generation.
